Let me share a little about the prevalence of blindness and vision loss. Basically, some degree of vision impairment affects 10 million Americans. There is no registry of blind or visually impaired people in the U.S. so these are estimates based on the best available information, mainly Census information. There are 1.3 million people who are legally blind. The incidence of vision impairment increases with age, because some of the leading causes of vision loss are age-related. As the US population is getting older, we can expect somewhat more visual impairment in the population.
